Resurrection Council Meeting Highlights

Resurrection Council Meeting Highlights

The church council met on July 15, 2015. Here are some highlights:
  • The council continued a study of Psalms, focusing on Psalms 121 and 127, led by Vicar. For the upcoming year, the council will read through the entire Bible, beginning with the New Testament, and discuss the previous month's reading at each council meeting.
  • Several new members were welcomed. Paul Konkol by adult confirmation. Gene and Kay Saloff by transfer. Brandon, Lydia, Tristan and Elijah White by transfer.
  • Sara Musgrave and Ryan Duemke were granted releases from membership.
  • The council approved a motion to present to the congregation the WELS statement on marriage and marriage policies. This statement will be presented with the council's recommendation at the July 26 congregational meeting. The WELS has encouraged all congregations in our synod to adopt this statement, after advice with legal counsel, in light of the recent Supreme court ruling on same-sex marriage.
  • The council adopted a "wish list," to present to the congregation which will provide opportunities for special gifts and guide those gifts in line with priorities approved by the congregation.
  • A facility use request for Christian counseling services was made by a member of the congregation. The council adopted revisions to the current facility use policy to clarify some points. The council will be bringing this facility use request to the congregation with recommendation on July 26.
  • The council was awed by God's goodness and extremely thankful for the generosity of God's people in giving of time, talent and treasure to support our current and future ministry. Offerings were higher than anticipated. This allowed to the council to recommend and increase in Synod Mission offering to a point that 10% of congregational offering will be going to the work we do together as a synod. This work includes, training future pastors and vicars and teachers at two high schools, one college and one Seminary; carryingout mission work in the United States by planting new churches and around the world by sending missionaries to foreign countries and supporting local churches around the world. The proposed budget will also be shared at the July 26 congregational meeting.
  • Three new men officially began their terms of service on July 1, Mike Korth, Prek chairman; John Deegan, property chairman; Randy Huebner, secretary. They join existing council members: Denny Moore, president; Ned Reimer, inreach chairman; and Gene Cate, outreach chairman. Please contact any of these gentlemen or Pastor with your questions, comments and concerns. The council considers it a privilege to serve Christ and our con-gregation.
