COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

The church council held a regular meeting on Tuesday, December 19.

  • The council continued a study of 1 Timothy, with the theme, "Leaders set an example for the congregation."

  • It was decided after discussion, to hold Midweek Lenten services in Monroe on Monday evenings. Pastor Strutz and Vicar Priewe will preach in a rotation with Pastor Bauer from Good News in Mt. Horeb and Pastors Moldenhauer and Cortright from Our Redeemer in Madison.

  • Ruth Redwing was received into membership by transfer from Good News in Mt. Horeb. Jesse Baumann was granted transfer to Immanuel in Long Valley, NJ.

  • The inreach team has decided to use the new version of the Lord`s Prayer for all services at both campuses for the sake of consistency and with the understanding that this version will likely become more popular in the future.

  • Offerings for the fiscal year (July 1-June 30) are about $11,000 behind budget, but due to lower spending, bottom line is very close to budget.

  • All groups and committees are thankful for the time and talents volunteered by members. Time and talent surveys will be better utilized in the future to best make use of the gifts God has given his people.

  • The outreach team will soon be setting 2018 dates for all major events such as Easter for Kids, Soccer camp, VBS, etc.

  • The council approved the following recommendation from the new pastor committee. This recommendation will be voted on at the January 14, 2018 call meeting.

  • After much discussion and consideration of other options and weighing the pros and cons of those options, the members of the second pastor committee are in full agreement and recommend to the RLC church council that the call to the second pastor should stipulate that the new pastor is to live in the parsonage in Monroe.

  • The congregation is to pay for all maintenance related expenses for the home and in addition will pay for the electric, gas and water utilities.  There would be an “equity stipend” included in the salary package for the pastor for him to invest and build assets over the course of his ministry with RLC.

  •  A realtor approached a member of our congregation with land for sale in Fitchburg. The council decided now is not the best time for the congregation to pursue this option.

  •  The next council meeting date was set for Tuesday, January 16 at 5.30 pm. Technology is planned to be utilized to connect members from different campuses.

  • The next quarterly congregation meeting was set for Sunday, January 21, at 11.30 am. We plan to utilize technology so that members could attend at either campus.

  • A reminder that the call meeting for a new pastor will be held in Monroe on Sunday, January 14. A potluck meal will be held about noon, with the meeting to follow.
