Greetings from the Badger Prairie Needs Network!

As in years past, we’re currently planning for our Thanksgiving meal basket distribution. Last year, we provided almost 300 households with a holiday meal. This year, we are planning for just as many, if not more.

We are grateful for the partnerships we have with churches in the Verona and Fitchburg area that help make distributing this meal so successful. We would be honored if your congregation assisted us again this year.

We’re making a few changes to how we distribute the meal this year, but what hasn’t changed is how we’d like items to be collected. We ask that when your congregation’s members donate, each donation includes the following items which will make up part of the meal basket:

1 Stuffing 6 oz. box
1 White Rice 2 lb. bag
1 French Style Green Beans 14.5 oz. can
1 Fruit Cocktail/Mixed Fruit 15.25 oz. can
1 Mandarin Oranges 15 oz. can
1 Pineapple Chunks 20 oz. can
1 Vegetable Oil  32 oz.
1 Cranberries (canned whole or sauce)

In addition, we ask for $15 along with each donation; we use this to purchase turkeys, frozen pies, and fresh produce to complete the meal basket. Please have your members make their checks out to your church. Then have the church write one check to Badger Prairie Needs Network for the total amount of all cash & check donations with “Thanksgiving dinner” in the memo line. This is extremely helpful in streamlining our process and providing food in a timely manner. Any remaining money will be used to purchase hams for Christmas or food to distribute from the pantry.

You may have already received an email with drop-off and distribution dates. After further consideration, we’ve made some slight adjustment to the schedule. Food and monetary donations should be brought to Badger Prairie Needs Network on Sunday, November 3, between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm. If you have members that are able to stay and help our volunteers sort the food, we would very much appreciate it. The Thanksgiving meal baskets will then be distributed from Monday, November 11 through Tuesday, November 26 during regular pantry hours which will allow patrons more opportunities to pick-up their meal baskets. If you or any of your parishioners have any questions, please contact Karen Dettinger, Special Events Coordinator (contact information below). We are exceptionally thankful for the generosity and continued support of the surrounding faith communities throughout the year and look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Karen Dettinger
