May is here and so is the warmth. After being cooped up for what seemed like an eternity, we’re extremely thankful for these beautiful, warm and sunny days and for the time to enjoy them. It took a while, but hopefully the warmer weather will stay a little longer this year?.
The children here at RLP have been busy learning about spring things, from plants to insects to baby animals. During the month of May, the children will be learning about birds, shapes, outer space, and the zoo. Matching games, charts, making our own rocket launcher, making paper bird houses and talking about our favorite zoo animals are just some of the activities we’ll be doing this month. Our garden is also getting ready to be planted, and the children will be helping out and getting their hands dirty. Thanks again to Ken and Carrie Henderson for their help! We always enjoy getting to spend time with “Farmer Ken” as the kids like to call him ?.
Asha Gilmore, our student teacher, is finishing up her last few weeks with us here. She has been a wonderful blessing and addition to our staff and classroom and we will miss her! Best wishes to Asha as she continues on with her Early Childhood education!
Registration is off to a good start for the 2014-2015 school year. We have only 2 spots left for our 3 year old program, so if you or someone you know is looking for a preschool, contact our director right away! Four children are already enrolled for our afternoon wrap around program, and we’d love to enroll more! Times for wrap around are 11:00am-3pm. Wrap around includes lunch, short rest time, Bible story, and extra learning opportunities. There still is space available for our 4K program, so if you live in the Verona area and have not registered yet, please do!
Our next Education Support Committee meeting is planned for Monday, May 12th at 6:30pm. The ESC is currently looking to get a committee together for the Hometown Days Parade on June 15th. This committee would be in charge of putting a float together, getting the float to the line-up site the day of, and finding people to help hand out items. Please speak with Katie if interested or have questions. RLP is also in need of a 3 year old teacher for the 2014-2015 school year. A job description is available on the PreK bulletin board or can be emailed to you. Again, please speak with Katie if interested.
One more note: our playground should be arriving soon and will need to be assembled by us! We’re looking at putting it together the 2nd weekend in May, but there’s a possibility we may need to put it together during the week. Please speak with Brian Kreutz if you are able to help either during the week or on that 2nd weekend. Thank you!
Sunday, May 11 we will be dedicating the new stain glass window above the pulpit in church. Please make plans to attend. The dedication will take place during the 9:00 a.m. worship service. The Scripture readings, hymns and sermon will focus on the portion of the Scripture the window portrays, Jesus preaching from a boat.
